Q: What is a sprinkler winterization and what does it entail?
A: A sprinkler winterization, also known as a blowout, is very straightforward. A technician comes to your house and shuts off the water to your sprinklers, hooks up an air compressor somewhere on your system, and blows air through the lines until there’s no water left in them. PEAX Sprinkler Repair technicians are trained to ensure the pipe between the shut off valve and the backflow prevention device is empty of as much water as possible.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The base price for a winterization is $100 for up to six zones and five $5 for every subsequent zone. Additional charges may apply for hard to access shut off valves and backflows or multiple hook up points.
Q: Is it possible to winterize my sprinklers myself?
A: Technically, yes. Practically, though, it’s extremely difficult to ensure a proper winterization with the air compressors most homeowners typically have access to.
Q: What should I do if there’s a freeze before you’re able to blow out my sprinklers?
A: Refer to the dorky video below.
